We collect information you provide to create your Aura profile, including your name, age, gender, photos, and bio. To power our unique voice-based matching, we also collect voice recordings and analyze your speech patterns. We also gather usage data as you interact with the app.
Specifically, we may collect:
- Profile Information: Name, birthday, gender, photos, bio, occupation, and preferences you provide during onboarding.
- Voice Data: Voice Signature recordings and voice responses to personality questions during onboarding.
- Location Data (Optional): Approximate location to show distance to potential matches. Location is not required to use the app.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app, including matches, messages, and Pod Date participation.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, and app version for troubleshooting.
2. Data Usage
Your data is used to provide and improve our services. This includes operating our matching algorithm, performing AI analysis to determine compatibility, and personalizing your app experience. We are committed to using your data responsibly to help you build meaningful connections.
3. AI Data Processing
Aura uses artificial intelligence to enhance your experience. We believe in transparency about how AI processes your data:
What data is processed by AI
Your name, age, gender, and personality questionnaire answers are processed by our AI system to generate personality trait labels for your profile. Your voice recordings are transcribed and analyzed by our AI to identify personality insights and compatibility factors.
How AI processing works
All AI processing occurs on Aura's secure servers using OpenAI-compatible language models. Data is sent to the AI model, processed, and the results (personality traits, compatibility scores) are returned to your profile. The AI does not independently store or retain your data beyond the immediate processing request.
What we do NOT do with your data
Your data is never sold to or shared with third-party advertisers. Voice recordings and text data sent to our AI are used solely for generating your personality profile and improving match quality. The AI provider does not retain your data after processing is complete.
You will be asked to acknowledge this AI data processing during onboarding before any of your data is sent to our AI systems. You can review this policy at any time from within the app.
4. Data Sharing
Your privacy is paramount. We never sell your personal data. Information is shared with other users only as a core function of the app, such as when you match with someone. Specifically:
- With other users: Your Voice Signature, display name, age, and profile information are shown to potential matches as part of the matching experience.
- With service providers: We use trusted third-party services for hosting, storage, and AI processing. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
- Anonymized data: Aggregated, de-identified data may be used for research and service improvement.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data as long as your account is active. If you choose to delete your account, your personal information — including voice recordings, messages, photos, and profile data — will be permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only. While no system is 100% secure, we continuously monitor and improve our security practices.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data at any time through the app.
- Correct inaccurate information via the Edit Profile screen.
- Delete your account and all associated data from Settings.
- Export a copy of your data via the Data Export feature in Settings.
- Withdraw consent for AI processing (note: this may limit certain features like personality matching).
8. Location Data
Location access is entirely optional. If you grant location permission, we use it solely to calculate approximate distances between you and potential matches. We never share your exact coordinates with other users — only an approximate distance (e.g., "3 miles away") is displayed. You can enable or disable location access at any time in the app's Settings or your device's system settings. The app functions fully without location data.
9. Children's Privacy
Aura is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it immediately. For more information, see our Child Safety Policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of Aura after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
